APT's vehicles have an impeccable reliability record while traversing some of the world's roughest terrain. As you travel along corrugated roads and ford rivers, your experienced Driver-Guide will make the task at hand look easy while ensuring your comfort and safety.

Activity Level

The remote nature of the Kimberley requires travel by 4WD over some corrugated and often rugged terrain. A good level of fitness is essential for you to undertake walks in hot conditions and over terrain with uneven and slippery surfaces.

Some walks will require you to clamber over boulders up to one metre high. All walks are undertaken at a slow pace for your comfort and safety, and your Driver-Guide will be able to assist you where needed.

Please request a brochure or view one online to see the specific activity level for each of our activities.

On some of the more challenging walks at Bell Gorge and Mitchell Falls, you’ll be accompanied and assisted by two expert APT guides. Sturdy and comfortable walking shoes are an absolute must on all adventures. Please contact us if you require more information.

Life in the Outback

The Kimberley's climate can sometimes push the extremes. Depending on the season, the day can heat up very quickly, and then quickly cool off at night. That's why, our itineraries are expertly planned to enjoy walks earlier in the morning, with the evening to enjoy a magical sunset.

Due to the remoteness of the Kimberley, daily travel distances vary. Some days you may travel up to 500 kilometres and other days it will be significantly less. On unsealed roads, the going can be rough so covering the required distance can take longer. A comfort stop is made approximately every two hours and more often if required.

There are numerous gorges and rivers to be discovered, and on many days usually during morning or afternoon tea, you’ll have the chance to take a refreshing swim.

Committed to the Kimberley

APT is the only major tour operator in the Kimberley region with an Advanced Ecotourism certification, reflecting the economic, environment and socially sustainable practices we adopt: including recycling; renewable energy; ABCO water systems; environmentally-friendly products; and sensitive building design. 2016 marks 10 years of our Advanced Ecotourism certification. We are also proud recipients of the Qantas Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism at the 2014 Western Australian Tourism Awards.

Our Kimberley holidays are made possible with the help of our long-standing Indigenous partnerships. Whether it's leading a group on a walk or providing access to sacred land, they provide a vital ingredient of your Kimberley experience. APT is proud of its partnership with Wunan, established to drive long-term socioeconomic change. Our relationships with local traditional landowners has led to the development of several permanent wilderness lodges. We have employees from local communities at our Mitchell Falls and Bungle Bungle Wilderness Lodges, not to mention providing supplies to the local art gallery at Bell Gorge Wilderness Lodge. Partnering with the Djabulukgu Association, we can access highly restricted areas of Kakadu. Visit sacred sites, including Cannon Hill, Hawk Dreaming and Arnhem Land.

We are proud of our association with Kimberley Foundation Australia whose mission is to research, preserve and promote Kimberley Rock Art. We support their vision to ensure the rock art is preserved and recognised for its national and international significance. KFA’s research provides insight into one of the oldest cultures in the world. Our expert Driver-Guides receive briefings and training from KFA. As a result you gain a deeper understanding of Aboriginal culture, including rock art during your holiday. To find out more information about KFA, please visit:
